Garry Gelowitz of British Columbia won the 2 versus 2 men's playoff, 6-2 over Paul Gagnon (Quebec) at the Canadian Masters Curling Championships at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club. Gelowitz will face Noble in the morning semi-finals also at 9:00am (CDT). The championship finals are scheduled for 2:30pm tomorrow at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club.

A part of the Quebec Christmas curling tradition is the annual Tim Caverly Christmas Bonspiel, an event sanctioned by the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC). This annual event, which takes place this year on the 27th, 28th and 29th of December in Montreal, is one of the oldest and largest Junior Bonspiels in Quebec and Eastern Ontario.

The qualification process for teams who will compete in the 2009 Canadian Curling Trials has been revised, the Canadian Curling Association announced on March 17th. The Trials, which will determine Canada’s representatives for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, will now bring together eight men’s and eight women’s teams, instead of the previous 10.

Quebec won a Canadian men's curling championship for the first time since 1977 on Sunday when Jean-Michel Menard skipped his team to an 8-7 upset over Ontario's Glenn Howard in the final. The last and only team from Quebec to win a national title prior to Sunday was a foursome skipped by Jim Ursel 29 years ago when the tournament was held in Montreal.
